Fans of the Google Chrome web browser have a new test build to download from the Dev channel. Chrome 12.0.742.16 brings UI and performance tweaks, as well as platform specific enhancements.

Jason Kersey, of the Google Chrome team is proud to announce that “The Chrome Dev channel has been updated to 12.0.742.16 for all platforms,” which includes Mac OS X.

Kersey weighs in on the contents of the new build, saying “This release continues to address UI and performance issues, as well as a fix for non-Aero themes on Windows.”

As usual, the SVN revision log is at users’ disposal for the full list of changes. “If you find new issues, please let us know by filing a bug,” Kersey concludes.

Last week, Chrome 11 reached final status with a new release on the Stable channel launched for Mac OS X, Windows, Linux, and Chrome Frame.

Chrome 11 contains several key improvements, including speech input through HTML, as well as numerous security patches.

Chrome 11 users are now able to translate what they’re saying into other languages with Google Translate, a feature also present in Chrome 12 developer builds.

To use Chrome on a Mac, the open source web browser requires that users have a system based on the Intel processor architecture.

OS requirements are Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard or OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard (all incremental versions are supported, including Mac OS X 10.6.7).

A minimum 128 MB of RAM, and roughly 100 MB of free hard disk space are also required to run Chrome smoothly.
