Google is gearing up to release Chrome 12.0 Beta and Chrome 13.0 Dev, but it’s not quite there. Still, early adopters testing the Mountain View-based search giant’s open source browser can go ahead and download two new releases, especially if they’re running Windows.

A new update of Chrome is now available through the Beta Channel, namely Build 11.0.696.60, a release designed to fix a regression bug identified by the search company.

It’s worth noting that Chrome 11.0.696.60 is also the latest update of the Stable Channel, even though Chrome 11.0 was only finalized earlier this week.

Karen Grunberg, from the Google Chrome team detailed the regression issues resolved in the latest Beta and Stable release: “Windows painting issue while switching Chrome 11 window with overlapped app.”

With the Beta and Stable versions of Chrome now synchronized, it’s clear that Google is simply dealing with the last details and bugs, refining Chrome 12.0 for graduation from the Dev Channel.

Following the new Stable and Beta updated, Chrome 12.0.742.12 was released to testers through the Dev Channel.

The focus with the new Chrome 12.0 Dev Build was placed on resolving bugs which impacted user experience, especially around the open source browser’s user interface and performance. Tweaks were also provided to the Sync preferences UI, according to the search giant.

It won’t be long now until Chrome 12.0 moved from Dev to Beta, a transition which is bound to bring with it the first Dev release of Chrome 13.0.

At this point in time, testers can get a taste of Chrome 13.0 only by downloading the latest Chromium Build. For those that are not familiar with how Chrome is being built, Chromium is the open source project behind Chrome, and in this regard, the source of the most advanced Builds of the browser, albeit designed for testing and not for everyday use.
