The Google Chrome Stable channel has been updated to version 11.0.696.68 for all supported platforms, including Macintosh. The new release contains security fixes and a new version of the Adobe Flash Player plugin.

Karen Grunberg of the Google Chrome team is proud to announce that both Macintosh and Windows, as well as Linux and Chrome Frame platforms are getting the new Stable build of Chrome today.

The security issues patched in this release have to do with bad casts in Chromium WebKit glue, and integer overflows in SVG filters, according to the release notes.

Google credits a couple of members from its security team - SkyLined and Cris Neckar - for discovering and reporting these errors.

As noted above, Chrome 11.0.696.68 also packs a new version of Flash. The updated plugin is mostly focused on security, but it also packs enhancements for privacy protection, as well as new functionality for business environments.

“This version also contains Flash Player 10.3 which is an incremental release with improved stability, enhanced security and user privacy protection, and new capabilities for enterprises and developers,” writes Grunberg,

Those seeking more information on this particular Flash update are encouraged to visit the Adobe official web site where the full Flash Player release notes are available.

Earlier this week, Google rolled out a new Chrome 12 developer build.

Some of the most noteworthy enhancements include the ability to launch apps by name from the Omnibox, integrated Sync into new settings pages, and improved screen reader support.

In Chrome 12, the screen reader now uses a special type of software that describes the contents of the screen using synthesized speech or braille.

The feature comes with preliminary support for many popular screen readers including JAWS, NVDA, and Apple’s own VoiceOver.

For Macintosh users, Google Chrome requires an Intel based machine running Leopard or Snow Leopard, 128MB of RAM and roughly 100MB of free hard disk space.
