Early adopters testing the latest release of Chrome 11.0 Beta will be able to notice a few improvements compared to the previous Build offered through the Beta Channel.

While it introduces no new features, Google Chrome 11.0.696.34 Beta does bring to the table fixes for a number of issues.

Among the issues fixed in Chrome 11.0.696.34 Beta are glitches related to duplicate icons, browser changes in relation to stored Autofill profiles and tab crashes for pages closed before the downloading process hadn’t finalized.

As it is usually the case with the Mountain View-based search company, the new Chrome 11.0.696.34 Beta is available for all supported platforms: Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.

While end users might be interested in increased stability and reliability, fact is that devs will want to start testing two new application programming interfaces now supported.

In fact, Google is inviting developers to build new projects that leverage the Web Navigation and Proxy Extension APIs.

The promise from Dominic Battré, Software Engineer and Jochen Eisinger, Software Engineer, is that the new dev resources will allow for a more intimate connection between Chrome and the applications and extensions designed for the browser.

“The Web Navigation Extension API allows extension developers to observe browser navigation events. These events fire both for top-level navigation and in-page navigation. The API therefore allows an extension to keep track of exactly what page (or section thereof) the tab is showing, and how the user got there,” Battré stated.

“The Proxy Extension API closes one of our most popular feature requests, allowing users to configure Chrome’s proxy settings via extensions. Proxies can be configured for the entire browser or independently for regular and incognito windows.”

Since both new APIs are experimental they are disabled by default. Early adopters testing the new Chrome 11.0.696.34 Beta will need to make their way to about:flags and switch on Web Navigation and Proxy Extension.
