A new version of the Google Chrome web browser is available through the search giant’s Beta distribution channel for all supported platforms, including Mac OS X, according to Google’s Karen Grunberg writing on the Chrome Releases blog.

“The Beta channel has been updated to 11.0.696.25 for Macintosh, Windows, Linux and Chrome Frame platforms,” Grunberg blogs for Google.

The release focuses on ironing out some of the recently reported bugs, as well as older ones, including an error running service on the headless machine, the browser’s inability to register for NIGORI data types, an unspecified crash, issues with displaying some image extensions, and more.

Users interested in learning more details about the changes implemented in this release are encouraged to visit the SVN revision log for Chrome 11, while users who discover bugs can file a report at this address: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/entry.

Last week, Google promoted Chrome to version 12 via the distribution channel dedicated to developers.

A less stable build of the WebKit-based application, Chrome 12.0.712.0 delivers a new Tab Multi-Select function, which allows users to select multiple tabs using the Ctrl key to apply various actions to all open tabs at once.

For Mac users in particular, Chrome 12 also delivers improved bookmark bar animations. The new Dev release also has an updated V8 engine.

To run Google’s open source web browser on a Macintosh computer, users need to run either Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard or Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard (all incremental versions are supported, including Mac OS X 10.6.7), on a machine equipped with an Intel processor.

Additional requirements include at least 128 MB of RAM, and around 100 megs of free hard disk space. All available versions of Chrome for Mac (Dev, Beta, Stable) can be downloaded using the link below.
