The Developer channel for Google Chrome releases has added build 10.0.648.82 to the mix, further pushing the web browser’s code towards its imminent release as a 10.0 beta.

Available for all supported platforms, including Mac OS X, Windows and Linux, Google Chrome 10.0.648.82 Dev focuses on stability, according to Jason Kersey, of the Google Chrome development team.

“The Chrome Dev channel has been updated to 10.0.648.82 for all platforms,” Kersey blogs for Google.

“This release primarily contains stability fixes from the last dev channel,” he writes.

As usual, Kersey informs that full details about the Chrome changes are available in the SVN revision log, while those who find new issues with the application are encouraged to file a bug.

On the Stable front, Chrome 9.0.597.94 has recently been made available with an updated version of Adobe’s Flash Player (10.2), along with a number of security fixes.

The security issues addressed in the latest stable Chrome release include:

- High Stale pointer in animation event handling - High Use-after-free in SVG font faces - High Stale pointer with anonymous block handling - Medium Out-of-bounds read in plug-in handling - Medium Possible failure to terminate process on out-of-memory condition

Google Chrome requires Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard and an Intel-based Mac. Using the link below, all versions of Chrome for Mac (Stable, Beta, Dev) are immediately downloadable.

A note about Google Chrome release channels and updates

Chrome boasts a release system with three distinct channels: Stable, Beta, and Developer preview, called the "Dev" channel.

The Stable channel is updated with features and fixes only after they are thoroughly tested in the Beta channel, while the Beta channel is being updated with stable and complete features from the Dev channel, where ideas get tested.
