Microsoft is by no means done extending its email client into the Cloud. The Redmond company recently released a plethora of offerings designed to connect Outlook to some of the world’s top social networking hubs. Now the software giant is providing the means for Outlook to become a travel planner in conjunction with the travel vertical of its search/decision engine. Microsoft has released the Bing Travel add-in for Outlook, which is available for download free of charge.

“Bing travel helps you Know When To Buy, When To Fly, and Where To Stay - all based on a huge volume of airfare and hotel rate data that we process every day. The Bing Travel add-in makes finding the lowest fare faster and easier because it’s available anytime in Outlook,” the company stated.

The Bing Travel add-in for Outlook is designed to integrate seamlessly with the mail client in both Office 2007 and the recently released Office 2010. At the bottom of this article users will be able to find download links for the trial versions of Office 2010 RTM, and test drive the productivity suite.

“The Bing Travel add-in puts this technology in the place where many people spend most of their day – in Outlook. Just by clicking the Bing Travel button in the Add-Ins menu, or right-clicking in your calendar, you’ll have access to Bing Travel’s decision making tools and all your favorite online travel agencies and airlines,” Microsoft explained. Of course, customers can always leverage Bing Travel directly. However, at this point in time, Bing Travel is not exactly what you might call an international tool, since it continues to be pretty much focused on the US.

“Researching travel options can be challenging. It takes time to review all the options and determine the best time to fly, what airline has the lowest fares, and where you will stay at your destination. Bing Travel makes these tasks easier by processing large amounts of travel related data and presenting it in ways that help travellers make better decisions,” the software giant added.
