In an attempt to convince professionals to give Final Cut Pro X a chance, Apple has introduced a trial version which anyone can now download, install and use on their Mac free of charge for 30 days.

To get a free trial of Final Cut Pro X, users must provide a name and an email address. As the 1.5 GB download commences, customers are notified that their free trial will expire 30 days after they open the application for the first time.

A page that provides a quick introduction to Final Cut Pro X is also provided. It features three demonstration videos (Overview, Magnetic Timeline, and Powerful Media Organization), as well as a link to Final Cut Pro X Resources, to learn more about the app’s potential.

Apple then offers the installation instructions which basically have users dragging and dropping the trial software in their Applications folder.

Users can install the trial application even if a prior licensed version of Final Cut Pro is present on their hard drive.

“If you’re currently using a licensed copy of Final Cut Pro 10.0, the Final Cut Pro Trial will prompt you to upgrade your library when you open the trial for the first time,” Apple states. “Once your library is upgraded, you must update your licensed copy of Final Cut Pro in order to access the upgraded library.”

Those looking to grab Final Cut Pro X need to pack Mac with OS X 10.6.8 or later, an Intel Core 2 Duo processor or better, 2GB of RAM (Apple recommends 4GB), and an OpenCL-capable graphics card or Intel HD Graphics 3000 or later.

The full system requirements can be found here.
