The people at Facebook have given their iPhone application an overhaul adding new abilities, like tagging friends and places in posts, and several improvements and bug fixes.

“Facebook for iPhone makes it easy to stay connected and share information with friends,” say the people behind the world’s most popular social network.

“Use your iPhone to start a conversation with Facebook Chat, check your friends' latest photos and status updates, look up a phone number, or upload your own mobile photos to Facebook while on the go,” says Facebook, Inc.

With no iPad-native client yet available for download, users are stuck on the 3.5-inch screens of the iPhone and iPod touch players, but they now have a coincidental version 3.5 of the Facebook app to enjoy with new abilities like easier ways to share stuff, tagging friends and places in posts, and sharing external links from a web view.

There’s a new design for Profile and Group Walls and the sharing tool has been enhanced to add privacy controls on posts and to match your settings on the website.

Facebook 3.5 iOS also brings improved Notifications speed, fixed Chat bugs, fixed bugs with the Notifications bar disappearing and some Photos errors,  easier ways to select filters in News Feed, and improved performance and stability overall.

The Facebook iOS app is compatible with all iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad models and requires iOS 3.0 or later.

Running the software on the iPad’s 9.7-inch screen won’t enhance your experience as the app has been designed with the iPhone in mind.

The app is free to download from the Social Networking section of the iTunes App Store. It’s localized in  English, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Turkish.
