At just a couple of month since the release of the first major upgrade for Exchange Server 2010 RTM, Microsoft has made available for download an update package designed to resolve any issues which survived following the release of Service Pack 1.

Customers running Exchange Server 2010 that already deployed Service Pack 1 will want Update Rollup 1 since the bundle is set up to correct problems with the RTM version of the upgrade.

As was the case with previous update rollups for Exchange, Update Rollup 1 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 1 (KB2407028) is available through the Microsoft Download Center.

Kevin Bellinger, a Senior Program Manager within the Exchange Customer Experience (CXP) team notes that the update brings to the table fixes for a number of server roles, including Client Access; Mailbox; Edge Server; and Hub Transport.

“In particular we would like to call out the following fixes which have been included in this release:

- 2028967 Event ID 3022 is logged and you still cannot replicate a public folder from one Exchange Server 2010 server to another

- 2251610 The email address of a user is updated unexpectedly after you run the Update-Recipient cmdlet on an Exchange Server 2010 server

- 978292 An IMAP4 client cannot send an email message that has a large attachment in a mixed Exchange Server 2010 and Exchange Server 2003 environment,” he explained.

For the time being, Update Rollup 1 for Exchange Server 2010 SP1 is only available for manual download, but as will all of the Redmond company’s updates, the refresh will hit Microsoft Update.

Current plans are to offer Update Rollup 1 for Exchange Server 2010 SP1 through MU on October 12th, 2010.

The software giant is also looking ahead and noted that the next Update Rollup for Exchange Server 2010 SP1 is planned for availability in early December 2010.

“We introduced two new languages with the release of Service Pack 1, Arabic and Hebrew. At present we are working through the process of modifying our installers to incorporate these two languages. Due to the timing of RU1 we were unable to complete this work in time,” Bellinger added.

“Customers running either of the two language versions affected are advised to download and install the English language version of the rollup which contains all of the same fixes.”
