Evernote, dubbed by its makers as “your second brain,” is a useful cross-platform application that enables users to store any kind of file and find it later based on powerful search algorithms, including text recognition. Recently updated to version 1.4, Evernote now has new and improved search shortcuts, adds in-note (word) search, a new Search menu that consolidates all search operations and other cool new enhancements.

"Attention power users: The latest Evernote for Mac release (version 1.4) introduces a number of usability improvements that make interacting with Evernote significantly faster," Evernote Corp. says in a blog post. "In addition to better menus, we’ve also added lots of new keyboard shortcuts for everything from searching to creating new notes to making checkboxes," the developers say.

Apple is featuring Evernote 1.4 as a staff pick on its Downloads page, posting details of the freeware app, which now weighs in at 15.9MB. According to the official description, part of the Evernote service includes abilities like clipping webpages, taking notes, making snapshots with the iSight camera, clipping screenshots, and creating to-do lists.

“Everything is seamlessly synchronized with the web, and made available across all the devices and platforms you use, including iPhone, Evernote for Mac, Evernote Web, and Evernote for Windows,” the team behind this truly wonderful service says. “For photos with text such as whiteboards, business cards or wine labels – Evernote makes those images searchable,” the developers share. A complete list of changes with Evernote 1.4, as posted over at Apple's Downloads section, is available just below.
