“BioShock – one of the greatest games of all time – is now on the Mac App Store,” Feral Interactive has announced. Bioshock is an apocalyptic first-person shooter video game designed by Ken Levine, a founding member of, and creative director at Irrational Games (formerly known as 2K Boston).

Set in an alternate history 1960, BioShock puts players in the shoes of “Jack,” a plane crash survivor who must explore the underwater city of Rapture, and survive attacks by mutated beings and mechanical drones.

BioShock combines role-playing-game elements with survival scenarios and is described by the developers (as well as Levine himself) as a "spiritual successor" to their previous System Shock game.

The title received very positive reviews, which mostly praised its "morality-based" storyline, and dystopian back-story.

Published by Feral Interactive in the Mac App Store, BioShock costs $39.99 to buy, and requires a 1.8GHz Intel processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 128MB video RAM (supports Nvidia 9400 integrated cards but does not support GMA 950 or X3100 cards), and 8GB hard disk space.

The key features noted by Feral in the game’s iTunes description include:

• Genre blender – Combines a clever mix of genres: First-person shooter with elements of role-playing and stealth.

• Superb visual style – An art deco world with advanced visual effects combine to create a creepy, immersive environment in which players can lose themselves.

• Sophisticated concept and story line – BioShock incorporates ideas about science and politics, raising profound questions about human nature, the role of government in society, and the morality of harming individuals for the greater good.

• Replayability – No two gamers will play BioShock the same way. Players are encouraged to explore all the nooks and crannies of Rapture.

• Exquisite sound design – Outstanding voice acting helps drive the narrative. Music from the 1940s and 1950s echoes through Rapture’s abandoned hallways.
