Owners of Windows Phone 8 devices can now download a new benchmarking application on their handsets, in the form of Basemark X.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Basemark X by Rightware comes to devices as a professional gaming performance benchmark, aimed at allowing cross platform comparisons devices running under Android, iOS, and Windows Phone 8.

This is one of the most popular benchmarking applications out there, available until now only on Android and iOS mobile phones.

“Basemark X features heavy graphics content and pushes tested devices to the limit,” Rightware notes in the application’s description.

“As the only professional benchmark built on top of a real-world game engine Unity 4.2.2, Basemark X reflects the real-world graphics performance of smartphones and tablets when rendering future 3D games.”

Those of you who would like to check on the performance capabilities of their devices using Basemark X should make sure that all other applications are closed before launching it.

“Please close all the other applications when running Basemark X so that the graphic memory will not be used for other purposes. You can choose either medium (by default) or high quality to run the benchmark,” the app’s description reads.

As soon as the test has been completed, Basemark X will deliver a high quality and objective score, thus allowing users to compare their handsets with other devices out there, through Rightware's official database Power Board.

According to the company, results from over 1000 smartphones and tablets have been collected there. Simply head over to this page on Rightware’s website to access the database.
