Amazon has released the Mac client application for its Cloud Drive service, which offers 5GB of free storage on the company’s servers, paid plans for additional storage up to 1TB, and unlimited space for music on all paid plans, for a limited time.

Amazon describes Cloud Drive as “your personal hard drive in the cloud.”

“Store your music, videos, photos, and documents on Amazon's secure servers. All you need is a web browser to upload, download, and access your files from any computer,” says Amazon.

The Cloud Drive comes with 5 GB of free storage, which is enough to store up to 1000 songs, according to the online retailer. “This space is yours to use as you like and you will never be charged for it,” the company says.

Customers can use their Amazon Cloud Drive as the go-to location for all their important files, whether they are at home or at work, or even while commuting.

In a nutshell, it’s pretty much identical to Dropbox (for those who are more familiar with this service). Amazon lists the following key features to entice customers:

- Quickly Access Cloud Drive From Your Computer - Easily upload your photos, documents, videos and other files - Drag and drop files and folders to the Cloud Drive icon - Right-click any file or folder and send to Amazon Cloud Drive - Easy download of one or more files and folders from Cloud Drive - Uploads and downloads run in the background - Continue using your computer as you normally would, the app can handle restarts and lost internet connections without losing your data - You can pause and resume at any time

Mac users looking to hop aboard the Amazon Cloud Drive can download the Cloud Drive DMG, double click to mount, and then drag the Cloud Drive icon to the Applications folder.

Finally, you must open the Applications folder and launch Cloud Drive for Mac, at which point you’ll be asked to sign in with your Amazon account. That’s it!
