AMD has released a major driver update for its current product line, integrating a lot of fixes and support for Ubuntu 13.04.

The new AMD driver has arrived with a surprising number of changes, and even if a lot of them are geared towards gaming, other important non-gaming features have been added.

The following distributions are officially supported: Red Hat Enterprise Linux suite 6.2 and 6.3, SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 SP4 and 11 SP2, OpenSuSE 11.4 and 12.1, and Ubuntu 13.04. .

Also, the AMD Catalyst Linux software suite has a few system requirements that have to be met: Xorg/Xserver 7.4 and above (up to 1.14), Linux kernel 2.6 or above (up to 3.8), glibc version 2.2 or 2.3, and POSIX Shared Memory (/dev/shm) support.

Highlights of AMD Catalyst 13.6 Beta Driver:

• Xserver 1.14 Support has been added; • Ubuntu 13.04 production support has been added; • GLX_EXT_buffer_age extension support has been added; • The black screen that appeared when entering Team Fortress 2 under the Cinnamon desktop environment, has been fixed; • A tearing effect, for some OpenGL applications with VSYNC on or off, has been fixed; • The taskbar is no longer missing after UVD playback on Ubuntu 12.04; • A corruption, that occurred in Team Fortress 2 when running the Dustbowl map, has been fixed; • The APL initialization failure has been fixed; • A screen corruption, that occurs when users kill X on Ubuntu 13.04, has been fixed; • Some WebGL conformance test failures have been fixed; • A regression of performance drop, that occurred with XBMC for UVD playback, has been fixed.
