Double Fine's two-part Kickstarter mega-hit adventure title Broken Age has now also released its first chapter on the Ouya microconsole.

Broken Age is a story about a young boy and a girl, following their parallel but similar destinies, as they attempt to stray from the path that has been laid before them and choose their own outcome.

The coming of age tale tells the story of a boy, Shay, who grows up in space all by himself, with a computer taking care of his every need, and who desires to explore the universe and see what lies beyond his habitat, and that of a girl, Vella, who has been selected by her village as a sacrifice to a giant monster, who wishes to change her fate.

Players are able to swap between the two protagonists at will in order to explore the game's extensive dialogue options and to tackle its puzzles.

The project's overseer is none other than Tim Schafer, whose game design portfolio includes titles such as Full Throttle, Grim Fandango, Psychonatus, and Brutal Legend, as well as old-time PC classics The Secret of Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge, and Day of the Tentacle.

Being well-known for his uniquely humorous take on storytelling, he was able to raise the necessary funds to make Broken Age into a high production quality game in one of the most famous campaigns in Kickstarter’s history.

As such, the game features a fully original orchestral soundtrack created by Peter McConnell, of the Monkey Island fame, as well as an all-star vocal cast, including names such as Elijah Wood and Wil Wheaton.

According to Tim Schafer, the founder of Double Fine, the game was split into two parts in order to make the ambitious goal of providing a game of the scope of classic adventures a reality. The decision to split the production effort into two separate chapters ensured, beyond any shred of doubt, that the developer will be able to finish the project.

As such, the first part was released along with a Season Pass that allows purchasers to download the second chapter for free, when it becomes available, of course.

A short time after the release of the first chapter of Broken Age, on January 28, 2014, Tim Schafer excitedly mentioned that the company already had all the funds needed to make the second half.

The first act of Broken Age is currently available on Windows, Mac, and Linux, on Steam and other retail outlets, and on the Ouya. It is expected to also come to iOS sometime during the next couple of weeks.

Making the game playable on the Ouya meant that it had to be fully playable using a controller and, as such, Double Fine has also updated the PC version with full controller and touch support.
