A door has fallen off a plane in mid-air and landed on the roof of a motel in Monterey, California.

According to The Salinas Californian, the door belonged to a plane that had taken off from Monterey Regional Airport on Thursday.

Strangely enough, the pilot had no problem landing the plane, and started looking for the door while on the ground.

At 3 p.m., he described hearing a “pop” but didn't realize that he was missing the door until landing the aircraft.

Thomas Greer, general manager of the Monterey airport, noticed the door on the Beechcraft King Air plane falling off and alerted the Monterey County Fairgrounds and the Coast Guard.

Said door turned up on top of the El Castell Motel in Monterey 18 hours later. It ended up on top of an uninhabited room and nobody noticed that it was there.
