It should be considered a “work of fiction” because it wasn’t authorized, says rep

Lifetime is getting ready for the premiere of another biopic, “House of Versace,” based on Deborah Ball’s book “House of Versace: The Untold Story of Genius, Murder and Survival,” starring Gina Gershon as Donatella Versace.

The real-life Donatella is none too happy about the fact that they’re making a movie on about her life, which will include, as the trailer above can confirm, outrageous drug references and plenty of controversy.

In a statement cited by ABC News, a rep for the fashion designer urges potential viewers of the biopic to keep in mind that this is not an authorized film.

“Versace has neither authorized nor had any involvement whatsoever in the forthcoming TV movie about Mrs. Versace,” the statement says.

Consequently, “Since Versace did not authorize the book on which it is based, the movie should only be seen as a work of fiction.”

“House of Versace” premieres on Lifetime on October 5.
