Joss Whedon says that was a one-time thing for “Avengers”

Marvel has made a staple out of introducing post-credits scenes / Easter Eggs at the end of each of their films, thus allowing fans to better make the connections between them, while keeping them hyped for the next one. That won’t be the case with “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” set to debut on May 1.

Director Joss Whedon recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about this, revealing that there would be no surprise in store for fans willing to wait in the theater until the full credits roll.

“A jewel and a weird little quirk”

Whedon’s previous work with Marvel was the first “Avengers” film, which came out in 2012 and was hailed as the superhero film that fans had been waiting for all along. It was also received well by critics, who praised him for being able to deliver a sound action movie, a superhero pic but also a solid instance of popcorn entertainment.

At the time of release, a lot of attention was focused on the post-credits “Avengers” scene, the famous shawarma scene, in which the Avengers were shown sitting around a table after the big battle to save the world, eating in silence.

There was nothing spectacular about the scene, except for the fact that it was completely unexpected and hilarious in its simplicity: here were the Universe’s biggest superheroes, grabbing a bite to eat like regular folks.

According to Whedon, a similar scene won’t be included with “Age of Ultron.”

“We all came at it separately - we don’t want to chase that. That was a jewel and a weird little quirk. … There is nothing at the very end. And that’s not a fake-out. We want people to know so they don’t sit there for 10 minutes and then go: ‘Son of a [gun]! I’ll kill them!’”

Of course, that will probably not prevent diehard fans from waiting in the theater for another 10 minutes, just to see if Whedon was lying or not.

An epilogue will be included

That said, since this is still a Marvel release, some sort of “treat” will be included at the end of the movie; it just won’t be after the full credits.

Whedon calls it a “tag,” which is a short, “epilogue-like scene” that comes in right after the credits start, and will offer clues as to the future of the franchise. That is to say, it will include a hint for fans as to what to expect from the upcoming and final 2 “Avengers” films.
