The Pekingese started producing milk and feeding the kitten

A miracle of science and kindness happened in Minnesota this month. A Pekingese befriended a small kitten, born just a few days before, and adopted it.

Pat Weber, Mitten's proud owner, said the kitten was found by her grandson in the family barn, the Huffington Post reports. She wrapped the cat in a warm towel, as it was freezing.

When her dog saw the 2-inch-long, “ice-cold,” kitten, her maternal instinct kicked in and she started licking the cat. By licking it, she gave it the warmth and care it needed to survive.

It was even more surprising when the dog started producing milk, and was able to nurse the kitten back to health. The four-year-old puppy is named Mittens, and hadn't given birth in more than 2 years.
