Dofus, the popular game developed by the French-based Ankama, will soon have a mobile version, called DofusPocket. Presented as a "tactical MMORPG" (and I'm sure all gamers know that MMORPG stands for Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game), the original Dofus was created as a cartoonish game for Windows, Mac and Linux, and it currently attracts about 3 million online players.

DofusPocket is created by Kalmeo, subsidiary of Ankama, and it's planned to be officially released in the summer of 2008, offering old or new fans of the game the chance to enter the Dofus universe from their handsets (all they'll need is a decent mobile Internet connection). The mobile version of the MMORPG will come with extra features like "data exchange", "information consultation" and SMS messages to alert players about important in-game events.

"We wish to offer our Dofus players new content and additional features that will add to the original online game. We do not wish to simply make a shorter version of Dofus for mobiles," declared, in a press release, Mr. Emmanuel Darras, co-founder and CEO of Ankama. "It seems to be the logical follow-up to our development which is centered on innovating cross-media solutions as well as our will to have a total control over our projects."

Kalmeo and Ankama, together with several Dofus community members, are currently beta testing the mobile edition of the game and, if everything goes well, the beta will be made public in a few weeks.

Assuming you don't know too much about what and how Dofus is, below you have a nice YouTube video teaser with the game. Of course, this is the PC version, since it's the only one available, but the mobile one should be pretty much the same, only that everything will be on a "smaller scale". Enjoy!
