How to prepare for network attacks

This is great! I've seen the NetworkWorld website display a 10-steps-based plan for IT experts to prepare their networks for politically motivated attacks. You just have to read this! Here's what they say:

The first thing to do is know your network, you simply have to see what is on it and then properly identify what your most important resources are. You have to keep those up all the time to have your business running properly. Also, do not have all the resources piled up in a single place.

The second thing to do is keeping the private network separated from public Internet and understand dependence on public Web.

The third thing, which is very important, is to have an 24/7 operational team to monitor the infrastructure of your network.

Another great security measure is to have everyone working on computers know a thing or two about security, so that they can tell when something is wrong and report it as soon as possible.

You need to have security plans tested and operational, and security teams need to be given enough privileges so that they can properly fight off attacks.

Get a hold of a phone number from your Internet Service Provider in order for you to know whom to call in case of emergency. Also, you should make sure that the Service Level Agreement with your ISP is the best one to protect your network.

Always have a back-up plan. You never know when you Internet connection is going to crash and you need to plan ahead just in case any outage occurs.

Cyber defense just doesn't cut it. You also need security cameras and other devices deployed so that no unauthorized personnel may hack the network from the inside.

Be careful who you hire - terrorists have been known to infiltrate into a company and work there for years to gain credibility and one day do something really nasty. This could happen in your department as well!

Last but not least, have an emergency response plan. Try getting a response manual worked out, to avoid any problems.

Well, these are certainly great security measures, bound to help people out. If you wish to read the article in full, be my guest and click on this link.
