Capcom has finally pinned a release date onto DmC Devil May Cry, the upcoming entry in its long-running hack and slash series, confirming that a version of the game for the PC is also in development at studio Ninja Theory, while showing off a supporting character, in the form of Kat.

The Devil May Cry series has entertained gamers for quite some time through four impressive installments. With DmC, however, developer Ninja Theory is reimagining the series, while keeping the traditional hack and slash mechanics intact.

We’ve seen many videos and screenshots with the game since last year but, sadly, Capcom declined to pin a release date on the title.

Things have changed, as the company has confirmed that DmC Devil May Cry is now set to appear on January 15, 2013, for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms.

What’s more, Ninja Theory is also working on a version for the PC platform, although it’s unclear if it’s also going to appear in January.

Besides the release date, Capcom posted the first details about one of the game’s main non-playable characters, Kat, who will help the hero, Dante, carve his way through the demonic world of Limbo.

“Kat is a former runaway that joined The Order very early in her life,” her description reads. “She is a medium and a gifted psychic who can see into Limbo, the demon realm, but not directly interact with it in the way that Dante does. She is the right hand girl of the Leader of The Order and devotes her very life to him, often putting herself in grave danger to gather intelligence from Limbo.”

“There is a sweet innocence about Kat’s world view and logic, but when it comes to her specialist subject, the demon realm, she is an undoubted expert. Kat is The Order’s ‘eyes and ears’ and is tasked with guiding Dante on his mission through Limbo.”

You’ve probably heard her voice in previous videos guiding Dante in his adventures, so it’s nice to finally see her through the images below, along with the game’s actual launch date.
