Not taking into account their former relationship problems, and focusing instead on taking care of their children, are good ways for divorced adults to ensure that they remain good parents. While this study is nothing new to some people, others still cannot get over the reasons why they divorced.

Researchers at the University of Missouri, led by human development and family studies professor Dr. Marilyn Coleman, say that divorced people don't necessarily need to fight all the time, in spite of what they believe immediately after the legal proceedings are over.

“We found in our study that’s not always true. Some couples get along from the very beginning. And for about half of the women we interviewed, the couples whose relationships started badly improved over time,” says Coleman, quoted by PsychCentral.

She adds that conflict, regardless of whether it's occurring within or outside of marriage, has an extremely negative influence on children.
