A new flavor of the ubiquitous DivX Mobile Player for S60 3rd Edition and 5th Edition smartphones has been brought into the wild by the guys over at DivX Labs, namely DivX Mobile Player 1.0 beta.

This 1.0 release of the player comes with support for S60 5th Edition mobile phones, a feature unavailable with the previous 0.94 release of the software solution.

At the same time, the new release of DivX Mobile Player comes with a series of updates and simplifications to the UI, as well as with enhanced support for the touchscreen displays of S60 5th Edition devices.

“DivX Mobile Player 1.0 is beta software available for a limited time only and will expire,” the company announced.

The previous 0.94 release is also available in a beta flavor, though it offers support for more Symbian devices, as well as for handsets powered by other mobile operating systems.

According to DivX Labs, their mobile player for Symbian devices can be used even if the handset is not officially DivX Certified.

“[Y]ou may still be able to watch DivX videos by downloading and installing the DivX Mobile Player. Find out below if your phone supports the DivX Mobile Player and follow the link to download according to your phone’s operating system,” the company announced.

The new version of the DivX Mobile Player can be downloaded and installed straight from the supported mobile phones.

However, users can also download and install the solution via a desktop PC, using a PC suite to connect the device.

The download links for DivX Mobile Player 1.0, different for S60 3rd Edition and 5th Edition smartphones, are available from Softpedia too, via this link.

The older 0.94 release is also available for download there, compatible with Windows Mobile 5 and 6 devices, as well as with Symbian OS 9 S60 3rd Edition and Symbian OS 9 UIQ 3.0 handsets.
