As we have seen earlier today, a new Common Sense Media study showed that 1 in 3 toddlers in the US was spending an increasing amount of time on tablets or smartphones. The trend hasn't gone unnoticed by companies looking to make a profit.

So Disney’s new show “Sheriff Callie’s Wild West,” starting November 24, will not make its TV debut as usual, on the Disney Channel or Disney Junior, but will go streaming right on your toddler’s tablet.

Talking to The New York Times, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Disney Junior WorldWide Nancy Kanter summed up in a few words the company’s new strategy.

“This is an entirely new approach for us. We have been amazed at how quickly kids have embraced the new technology. We’re talking billions of minutes spend watching.”

Disney also applied a makeover to its DisneyJunior.com website, building everything around a “tablet first” concept. The entertainment company now offers interactive “appisodes” of popular shows such as “Sofia the First,” where children are encouraged to interact with their slate as they watch the episode.

“Sheriff Callie’s Wild West” will have 24 full episodes and for now the first nine will be available for streaming on tablets through the Watch Disney Junior mobile app. The show won’t come to traditional TV sets until early 2014.
