Star-studded ensemble drama focuses on the shortcomings of technology

Just in case dramas like “Catfish” or other similar releases didn’t drive the message home, the Internet can sure be a very dangerous place. Like, really dangerous. This is the idea behind the star-studded ensemble drama “Disconnect” from Henry-Alex Rubin.

With a cast made up mostly of incredibly talented actors and actresses, “Disconnect” has already been making the rounds on the festival circuit but, sadly, it was not received too warmly, mostly because it comes about two decades too late.

Or so say the critics.

“A hard-working lawyer, attached to his cell phone, can’t find the time to communicate with his family. A couple is drawn into a dangerous situation when their secrets are exposed online. A widowed ex-cop struggles to raise a mischievous son who cyber-bullies a classmate,” reads a short synopsis of the film.

“An ambitious journalist sees a career-making story in a teen that performs on an adult-only site. They are strangers, neighbors and colleagues and their stories collide in this riveting dramatic thriller about ordinary people struggling to connect in today’s wired world,” adds the same.

“Disconnect” will be out on April 12 and will feature performances from Jason Bateman, Andrea Riseborough, Frank Grillo, Hope Davis, Michael Nyqvist, Alexander Skarsgard, Paula Patton, Max Thieriot and Colin Ford.
