Controversial fashion photographer Terry Richardson directed the video

Miley Cyrus broke all kinds of records with her official music video for her ballad “Wrecking Ball” but, at the same time, she also got plenty of heat for daring to show so much in front of the camera. The video above should set things right, at least partially.

If Miley opted for raunchiness in the original version of the video (even though it had little to do with the message of the song), she’s all about raw emotion in the director’s cut.

The director in this case would be controversial fashion photographer Terry Richardson. His presence on the director’s chair also explains the aforementioned raunchiness.

However, the new video is a single, continuous shot of Miley’s face in close-up, as she’s crying and singing about a love story gone sour.

For those of you who doubted she could emote / was a decent actress, this should prove you wrong.

Also, as a fun fact: Miley’s dad Billy Ray said that her initial video would have still fared this well if she hadn’t resorted to the nudity gimmick. The evidence is in the numbers: the clean one has only 1.5 million views, while the other is over 156 million hits.
