WiC developer claims that consoles can do better

No matter what fanboys and console manufacturers keep saying, the graphics on the consoles are, were and will always be worse than the graphics on PCs and the reasons are various (progress would be just one of them). However, it seems that every now and then, a developer plans to create a game like never before and it is prepared to do its best in order to succeed. Unfortunately, this does not happen too often. With one recent exception.

World in Conflict developer Petter Sydow, in an interview with VideoGamer.com, admitted that great visuals are a real possibility for Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles and, even more, the console port of the highly appreciated game will replicate some of the PC DirectX10 effects!

"At this point we've managed to replicate some of the effects, but I don't know what features will make it into the final release," he said. "Nearly all of our DX 10 features are possible to do on the consoles if you give it enough time and resources, so we'll keep on working on them and see what happens."

Well... it seems that these are the key words and the things that gaming developers lack: time and resources. We all know that a successful game is considered a hit (by the producers) if its sales are great, production costs are low and production time is short. No one except the WiC Swedish developer seems ready to invest more time than needed just for the joy of the gamers and that is a bad thing.

But, since this declaration has been made... who knows? Maybe in a few months we'll have another developer saying that not only PC-like visual fiestas are possible, but antialiasing, too! Yeah, I know, we're just asking too much. Thank God for the blur!
