The new PV2265w model from PhotoVu

Digital photo frames seem to be getting wider and wider these days, reaching sizes previously encountered only in the case of widescreen monitors. And that seems to be exactly the case with the latest model from PhotoVu, dubbed PV2265w, which sports a huge 22-inch display, as well as several other impressive features.

Thus, the PV2265w has been equipped with a 22-inch LCD TFT display with an 1680 x 1050 pixels resolution and 16,000,000+ colors. Furthermore, the display has a brightness level of around 300 cd/m2, an 1000:1 contrast ratio and a pixel pitch of 0.282mm, the device supporting images with resolutions up to 5616 x 3744 (although it automatically resizes them to the aforementioned native resolution).

According to the company, the digital photo frame consumers and digital signage business users can display thousands of digital photos or other digital signage advertising content stored on any Windows or Apple computer, or from select RSS enabled photo sharing websites such as Picasa Web Albums or Flickr, due to the fact that the device from PhotoVu provides support for 802.11b (11Mbps) and WEP 64/128bit, and can even be upgraded to 802.11g and WPA3. Furthermore, all PhotoVu digital picture frames require no additional image manipulation or software installation, while an optional removable USB hard drive or USB flash drive is also available for stand-alone operation.

"This is clearly the world's premium digital picture frame," said Robert Jordan, Partner, PhotoVu. "Our first large wide format digital frame, the PV1965w, has been very well received and we expect the PV2265w to be 'the' digital picture frame gift for the 2007 holiday season. Whether for digital signage use in a business, displaying art and photos in a gallery, or enjoying your digital photo collection within your home, this big digital picture frame with its huge 22" LCD display is one that you won't miss."

However, such an advanced digital photo frame is by no means cheap. Thus, the device's price starts at around $1,299, comparable to entry-level LCD and plasma displays and kind of expensive even for the most avid digital photography fans.
