The owners of S60 5th Edition mobile phones now have yet another browser available for their devices, namely the Digia @Web browser, which comes in a beta version for handsets like Nokia 5800 and N97, or Samsung i8910 HD. The new application can be downloaded and used for free and is compatible with Maemo devices as well, the company announced.

The browser's user interface comes with accelerated panning as well as multiple browser windows, allows for page rotation for portrait and landscape browsing, and features multiple zoom levels, a password manager, bookmark folders and favicons, bookmark auto-sorting, 'Page loading in progress' indicator, and RSS feeds. It also enables text select for copy/paste and brings full finger-touch controls and full screen browsing via auto-hiding controls.

“Now available for S60 5th Edition, Digia @Web is the best choice for surfing the web. It boasts a full finger touch UI and renders the web as it is intended using the state-of-the-art webkit browser engine. Now available as beta @Web for S60 is already a versatile browser providing direct page control with finger, multiple browser windows, url auto-complete and automatic full screen browsing,” the company says.

@Web is based on the S60 webkit engine in the S60 version, while the Maemo flavor is based on the webkit engine of the Qt 4.5 platform. The application's engine also comes with a series of features, including true web page rendering, support for JavaScript 1.5, HTML 4.01, HTTP cache, HTTP cookies, AJAX, Flash, and with secure and non-secure browsing support for HTTP 1.1.

The new Digia @Web for S60 5th Edition is in version 2.0.2 beta, and it comes with a series of known issues, including the fact that cookies cannot be cleared or pop-ups cannot be opened. At the same time, it does not support HTTPS, and it might freeze due to HTTP errors. Furthermore, S60 3.2 or earlier S60 editions are not supported with this version.
