Digi International announced the introduction of the ConnectPort WAN VPN S-EvDO, the first commercial-grade, upgradeable 3G EvDO (Evolution Data Optimized) router. The ConnectPort WAN VPN S-EvDO is the newest member of Digi's ConnectPort WAN family of high speed, commercial-grade wireless routers. It provides a secure, high-speed cellular connection for reliable primary and backup network connectivity to remote sites and devices.

Certified on the Sprint Power VisionSM Network, the ConnectPort WAN VPN S- EvDO provides wireless broadband-like communications at average download speeds of 400-700 Kbps and peak download speeds up to 2Mbps.

The ConnectPort WAN VPN S-EvDO features the functionality of a cellular router, firewall, switch, VPN appliance and terminal server in one device and is both upgradeable and commercial grade. Featuring an embedded four-port Ethernet switch, two RS-232 serial ports and one USB port, the ConnectPort WAN VPN S-EvDO enables many different kinds of devices to connect to a central site using a single wireless connection. It is completely upgradeable via the embedded PCI Express or Type 2 PCMCIA interfaces to provide maximum flexibility for future network upgrades. Customers can easily upgrade the PCI Express module to EvDO Rev A (available later this year) which will provide at least a 30 percent increase in download speed and an upload speed approximately 12 times as fast. This provides increased network performance and protects the initial investment in the router.

ConnectPort WAN VPN S-EvDO can be managed locally via a built-in web interface or remotely using Digi Connectware Manager, an enterprise class remote device management software. Administrators have access to one device or thousands for management, monitoring, alerts and troubleshooting. It also includes built in Dynamic DNS server for mapping an internet host name to a dynamic/public IP address.
