It has a lightweight and ultra-slim design, to fit in pockets

Portable storage media comes out all the time, and there never seems to be any decline in interest for them, which is why Silicon Power had no reservations about releasing the Diamond D20 HDD.

A hard disk drive with a capacity of 500 GB and USB 3.0 connectivity, it has a thin and light frame, fitting of its status as “mobile” HDD.

Unlike external HDDs that emphasize capacity over everything else, albeit not at the cost of aesthetics (usually), this one makes a point of being small and thin enough to fit inside a pocket.

For those who want details, the drive measures 116.5 x 78 x 10.5 mm / 4.58 x 3.07 x 0.41 inches and weighs 135 grams / 0.29 pounds.

Considering that, the capacity of 500 GB is actually noteworthy, as is the temperature resistance: 5℃ to 55℃ during operation, -40 to 70 degrees during storage.

Silicon Power also gave its device a power saving sleep mode, a LED indicator (power on and data transfer activity) and the SP Widget free download software.

Said software provides owners with 7 major backup and security tools. Portable units aren't really used much for that, especially when they look so good (though some may disagree), but it doesn't hurt to have the tools available.

On the other hand, the software also adds 256-bit AES file and folder encryption, which is good when taking the HDD from one place to another, and connecting it to foreign systems or loaning it to others.

As for the physical protections, they aren't many, as Silicon power favored ease of portability and looks instead: the case is white with black edges, making the D20 “elegantly simple and exquisite.”

Silicon Power sells the newcomer with a three-year warranty. Unfortunately, we don't know the price yet, as it was not included in the press release.
