Forget the Diablo II disc and just play

Diablo II fanatics, Blizzard Entertainment has just issued an update for you, eliminating the hassle of using the game CD every time you want to play. If all required Diablo 2 '.MPQ' files are also available in your Diablo II directory on your Mac's hard drive, you can finally put that Diablo II CD in a picture frame and up on a wall.

Patch 1.12 addresses Diablo II and its expansion, Lord of Destruction. For those who originally performed a 'Full Installation' and now wish to run without the CD, all '.MPQ' files must be copied from the Diablo 2 CDs to the Diablo 2 directory. According to Blizzard, most users will only need to copy D2Music.mpq from the Diablo 2 Play CD and/or D2xMusic.mpq from the Lord of Destruction CD.

NOTE: As a Mac user, you will need to copy these music files and rename them to 'Diablo II Music' and 'Diablo II Expansion Music' respectively.

Blizzard also notes that those who didn't perform a 'Full Installation' will need to re-install from CD again to ultimately play without the CD. Naturally, with the Diablo II CD in hand, you will be required to perform a 'Full Installation.' As soon as you're done installing your favorite hack 'n' slash title, you will need to go through the exact steps mentioned above, namely, copying the two music files.

Diablo II patch 1.12 also fixes an incompatibility between Rosetta and OpenGL mode on Intel-based machines.

As I'm sure you're very anxious to install this patch, with the memory of all those times when you misplaced your Diablo II CD still fresh in mind, HERE's the download link.

NOTE that by installing the latest Diablo II Lord of Destruction patch all previous updates will also be installed. However, there is still a way to get older patches for Diablo II. Click here to see how.
