The development team at Blizzard is in the final stretch before the launch of the Reaper of Souls expansion for Diablo 3 and is ready to deliver more information on the new Pandemonium area, which is one of the most innovative elements included in the new content.

The area was first included in the series in Diablo 2 and the studio promises that it has completely revamped its overall look and the kinds of enemies that gamers will have to deal with.

According to an official company blog, the Pandemonium area was once the most important battlefield in the never ending struggle between the angels and demons over control of the Worldstone.

Blizzard states that, “the renegade angel Inarius, along with the daughter of Mephisto, Lilith, stole away with the Worldstone, creating the world we now know as Sanctuary. With the artifact well hidden in this refuge, the battles in Pandemonium slowed over time and, eventually, ground to a halt.”

Pandemonium is designed to show how a place where war was waged eternally might look and the development team explored a lot of ideas and concepts before mixing them together and distilling their essence to find a unified vision.

The company adds, “Pandemonium Fortress needed to be different from the Ruins of Corvus in the Blood Marsh or Bastion's Keep at the edge of Arreat Crater. Instead of finding an earthly construct, you'll find this eerie keep maintains the notion of a militant garrison while distinctly lacking the trappings of what one would expect from a human site.”

The enemies that gamers will battle in the Diablo 3 – Reaper of Souls zone will include new scavengers who are able to feed off the remnants of battle, a number of forgotten angels and demons who sporadically still fight and the unique Realm Walker, a creature that needs to carry a portal that allows for travel to an eternal prison.

New locations represent just one of the elements that gamers will enjoy in the coming expansion.

The new Crusader class introduces a host of skills and abilities and will require players to create new tactical plans for the coming battles.

There are also stories and lore elements to discover and explore and Blizzard says that the items included in Reaper of Souls will impress even long-term fans of the series.

The Diablo 3 expansion will be offered on March 25 on the PC and Mac.
