Blizzard has confirmed that patch 2.1.0 for Diablo 3 is going to arrive soon on the public test realm (PTR) and that it will include a variety of new systems, such as the Seasons one, which offers new challenges, loot, and bragging rights.

Diablo 3 has been around for quite some time, but only recently did it make a great comeback, as Blizzard launched the Reaper of Souls expansion on PC and Mac, while coupling it with free updates that overhauled the loot system, character classes, and more.

Now, the developer is busy working on the next big free patch, in the form of update 2.1.0, which is finally going to debut on the public test realm in the near future.

On the official website, Blizzard has taken the chance to detail the new Seasons system, which is similar in a few ways to the old Ladders in Diablo 2.

Each season, players can create a new character and start from scratch in pursuit of new legendary gear as well as bragging rights thanks to the special Conquest achievements and the leaderboards.

"With the start of each Season, players will have the opportunity to earn Conquests. Conquests are special Season-only achievements (offered in addition to the suite of non-Seasonal achievements already available in the game) that represent a variety of challenging goals," the studio said.

"These goals can vary in terms of gameplay and difficulty, and some might be easier to complete than others. With tasks ranging from killing Malthael at level 70 on Torment VI to finishing Acts I-V in an hour or less, Conquests are designed to encourage and promote an array of different playstyles."

Conquests are being delivered on a "first come, first served" basis, meaning the first 1,000 players that complete a conquest in a given season will be immortalized on the special regional leaderboard.

Blizzard aims at delivering between 10 to 15 special conquests each season and unlocking them will give players achievement points that count towards their Seasonal point total, which affects their place on the regional leaderboard for the whole season.

Players who aren't in the mood to start new characters will still benefit from the new seasons, as the special legendary items introduced in them will be brought to the regular game once a season ends.

As of yet, Blizzard hasn't pinned a date to the Diablo 3 patch 2.1.0, so it's unclear when it will be released for the general public or at least for testing on the PTR.
