The Zoological Society of London has Leonardo DiCaprio, Edward Norton and several other celebrities to thank for the fact that it got a £500,000 (€586,848 / $778,990) grant from Google.

Ecorazzi reports that Google was offering the money to whatever organization or green-oriented group was “crowned” a fan favorite during this year's Google Global Impact Award.

DiCaprio, Edward Norton and other celebs asked their Twitter followers to show that they care about safeguarding biodiversity by supporting the Zoological Society of London and helping them get the grant.

“It’s fantastic to have won this important Google grant, and we couldn’t have done it without the overwhelming support from our VIP friends and the public,” conservationist James Wren said on behalf of the Zoological Society.

The money will be spent on installing cameras in Kenya's Tsavo National Park.

These cameras will help local rangers keep tabs on the elephants and rhinos living in this part of the world. They will also be used to monitor poachers.
