It's a well-known fact that portable computer systems have become the main choice for computer users, a fact that has affected the desktop PC segment. However, desktop PCs are still a necessity for many, which is why companies such as Devon IT are continuously updating their product portfolios with new solutions. On that note, the outfit has just announced that it has released a new thin client, dubbed TC4, which is already available for order from IBM. Designed to meet the requirements of a specific market segment, namely that of retail and financial services, the new thin client comes as a complete hardware and software solution.

“We developed the TC4 at the request of many customers who still utilize legacy ports, namely in the retail and financial services verticals,” says Stephane Verdy, chief technology officer for Devon IT. “The TC4 is ideal for point-of-sale environments and individual bank branches, and we look forward to offering this technology to our customers.”

The new desktop PC has been featured with a VIA C7 Eden processor, which runs at a very cool 1GHz clock speed and has been coupled with 512MB of RAM and 1GB DOM. The VIA-based platform has also been featured with the integrated C700 graphics and a built-in 1W speaker. In addition, customers will be able to configure the thin client with either the Windows Embedded Standard (XPe) or Devon's embedded Operating System (DeTOS). The solution also comes with 10/100 LAN and D-SUB, DVI outputs, but also offers support for RDP, ICA, Web-based applications, and virtual desktop environments from Citrix, VMWare, and RedHat.

As stated above, the thin client is now available for order through IBM, but the provider hasn't announced any details regarding the pricing of the new system.
