The Wii U from Nintendo is the first next generation to launch, expected to be available all over the world before the end of this year, but it seems that developers are already criticizing the hardware of the new platform and its capabilities.

One developer who was contacted by GamesIndustry has stated, “It’s not up to the same level as the PS3 or the 360. The graphics are just not as powerful.”

Another source said, “It doesn’t produce graphics as well as the PS3 or the 360. “There aren’t as many shaders, it’s not as capable. Overall the Wii U just can’t quite keep up.”

Even the tablet controller was criticized by one developer who is currently working on the Wii U, who added, “The whole thing about the tablet controller is that you only get one of them, and you can only use one and it’s not completely independent. The base console has to be on, and you have to be in range. Other controllers are just Wiimotes, or other Wii controllers. They may change the form factor or looks a bit, but it’s the same controller.”

Nintendo revealed the Wii U at the 2011 edition of E3, and the company says that the full hardware design and the initial video game line-up will be revealed at this year’s edition of the trade show.

The Japanese hardware developer says that the Wii U is offering the same amount of computing power as current devices from Sony and Microsoft and that it will be creating new ways of playing via its touch screen controller.

Rumors are saying that a new Xbox and a new PlayStation will be announced before the end of the year, but both presumed developers state that the 360 and the PS3 have ten year life term plans and no new consoles will be released in the near future.
