The sixth beta of redsn0w 0.9.6 has been released in the wild for jailbreakers / unlockers experiencing battery drain and the disabling of push notifications after employing the previous version (0.9.6b5) of the hack tool, the infamous iPhone Dev Team has announced.

Via an update to its most recent blog post, the Team informs members of the jailbreak community that “Developer @sbingner (author of TetherMe) has made some excellent progress devising a new hactivation method that kills two birds with one stone for all you ultrasn0w unlockers.”

“His tool, ‘Subscriber Artificial Module (SAM)’ tricks your iPhone and iTunes into creating legitimate activation tickets even though you’re unlocked with ultrasn0w,” the Team elaborates.

Users allegedly get the full benefit of push applications, while battery life increases substantially, according to the infamous team of hackers, which offers a direct link to the sbingner’s web site.

The Dev crew, for its part, has updated redsn0w (now at version 0.9.6b6) to include a new “deactivate” option for iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS handsets, thus making it easier to “try out” SAM.

“Use this option *after* you’ve installed SAM…it will remove the normal patches made to lockdownd and let SAM take over,” the Team’s advice goes.

The author of SAM reportedly plans on making a button to do this within SAMPrefs too.

The Team properly credits the developer for his efforts and proceeds to offer download links for the Mac and Windows versions of the new redsn0w app, adding one final note for Windows 7 and Vista users, who are required to run the program as Administrator in “XP Compatiblity Mode”.
