Deus Ex: Human Revolution is, despite a few delays, the big triple AAA game that will break the summer vacation and nudge gamers back into action and the developers working on the game at Eidos Montreal have admitted that they have even used Invisible War, the black sheep of the series, as inspiration in order to make the game the best it could be.

Frank Lapikas, who is one of the game designers working on Human Revolution, has said, “The truth about Invisible War is that I personally did not get as much enjoyment out of it as I did the original Deus Ex. Looking at Invisible War was a cautionary tale. The game showed us how some apparently simple design decisions such as universal ammo could alter the essence of what Deus Ex is.”

Invisible War was widely criticized by fans of the original Deus Ex because it kept most of the elements that made it great but managed to lose the ability to generate the same emotions.

He added, “So in essence we used Invisible War and compared it to Deus Ex 1 in order to operate a ‘course correction’, which means we reverted most decisions in Invisible War in favor of what Deus Ex 1 had done.”

The designer says that everything that is part of Deus Ex: Human Revolution and comes from Invisible War has also worked in the first game in the series.

The developers working on the game have already said that are making choice one of the cornerstones of the Deus Ex experience and that they plan to make Human Revolution one of the most replayable titles of the year.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution will be launched on August 23 in the United States and three days later in Europe on the PC, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.
