Meet the tough as nails and traumatised Adam Jensen

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is the first big launch of the fall season and one of the games that I have been long waiting to get my hands on so, for the last few weeks, I have been thinking how to approach my first play through the game.

For the first Deus Ex, and other titles like System Shock, I tended to favor the hacking, minimal violence and stealth, approach, only going head to head with enemies when I absolutely have to.

I am sure that my stealth muscles have atrophied somewhat because of lack of exercise so in Human Revolution I plan to be a ruthless, moderately violent and talkative Adam Jensen, a man who tries to be quick and inconspicuous but has a clear moral sense and is quick to take down with overwhelming force all those who oppose him.

Adam Jensen, the main character, gets quite spectacularly mangled in the first half hour of the game and after being fitted with quite extensive and powerful augmentations is called back to deal with a situations that involves both hostages, that should be saved, and a prototype weapon that needs to be hidden before the police is involved.

I decided to go all out in this first mission, shooting my way through the enemies while using as little cover and hacking as I could.

I am happy to report that there's no way to play the new Deus Ex as a simple shooter and that taking cover, taking quick glances and well aimed shots is crucial for success on the Normal difficulty level.

The game is also very open and offers ample opportunity for sneaking, taking out enemies silently and hacking to get past security.

My Jensen was also confronted with his first big choices, which involved a hostage and how to deal with a terrorist, and I chose to express the anger my character must have felt after losing his hands and becoming a sort of social pariah by dealing with the assailant violently despite the fact that an innocent life was lost in the process.
