It seems that some more details on a new Samsung AMOLED touchscreen slider cellphone have emerged on the web, and we're looking at a device that features an 8-megapixel autofocus camera and GPS. The new handset, dubbed Samsung S8300, comes with a 2.8-inch WQVGA 16m color AMOLED touchscreen and also sports a widget-based interface.

On the outside, the external hardware controls are quite limited as there is only a D-pad and call/end buttons, yet the device features a full numeric keypad on the slide. Word has it that the S8300 will come in a casing made from duralumin, which would also feature an anti-scratch and fingerprint-resistant coating, meant to give it a little more protection while the phone is inside your pocket or purse.

The new Samsung S8300 is reported to come with Bluetooth 2.1, as well as 7.2Mbps HSDPA and an FM radio with RDS. In addition, a DivX-compatible media player is also expected to be present inside this device. The AMOLED touch screen and the media player should be able to provide enough hours of video entertainment.

The phone is reported to feature an internal storage capacity of around 60MB, which can be expanded, as the device includes support for microSD memory cards. The Samsung S8300 is said to be no more than 12.8mm thick. The casing looks somehow sober, yet the phone also has the bright orange slide-section that contrasts with the sober look and makes it a little more vivid.

The S8300 comes as a great upgrade for the Samsung U900 Soul, which has been launched last February at MWC 2008. According to the news, the new Samsung should hit the market sometime in March 2009. We should be able to see the device unveiled at CES 2009 in January, or at least at MWC Barcelona in February.
