Salem State University is warning around 25,000 former and current students and staff members of a security breach in which their personal details might have been compromised.

According to CBS, the university identified a virus on one of its servers back in February. It’s uncertain if any data has been stolen.

However, the educational institution’s representatives say they’re not taking any chances, so they are informing all the potentially affected individuals, and they are offering them free ID protection services for one year.

Salem News informs that only those impacted by the breach will be notified. A call center has been set up for those whose information might have been stolen.

It’s uncertain what type of information is stored on the infected server, but Salem News reports that the breach affects individuals who have received paychecks from the university, including students working on campus.
