The game is a critical part of enforcing the perception that PS4 is the best place to play

The upcoming Glacier White Destiny PlayStation 4 bundle is a critical component of Sony's plan to make owners of its latest console feel special, and to think of the PlayStation platforms as the best places to play the available cross-platform games.

Adam Boyes, the vice president of Publishing and Developer Relations for PlayStation, says that the company's overall goal is to make its customers feel special.

Even though the upcoming online multiplayer first-person shooter Destiny is not a PlayStation exclusive title, Sony struck a deal with publisher Activision, consisting of a ton of timed exclusives for the PlayStation 3 and PS4 editions of the title, as well as exclusive access to the game's alpha and extended beta participation.

"In general, we want to look at PlayStation as the best place to play. That's why we spent a lot of money going for 8GB of GDDR-5 RAM and high processing power – to ensure that it is perceived as the best place to play."

"Destiny is a critical part of that; we want people to see that custom white PS4 and say, 'Where did you get that?' or see the custom gear on PS4 and say, 'Where did you find that?' That's a part of ensuring that people feel special when they play on PlayStation," Boyes reveals in an interview with Game Informer, from this month's issue.

In spite of accusations of betrayal from the Xbox portion of the gaming community (it did create the Halo franchise after all), developer Bungie has repeatedly stated that it doesn't want to play favorites with the audience and that it loves its PlayStation and Xbox fans equally.

In addition to the exclusive content that PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 owners will receive with their copy of Destiny, the company has also unveiled the upcoming white PS4 bundle, which will become available when the game launches, on September 9.

Just before this year's edition of the E3 trade show, Sony rolled out a brand new marketing slogan for the PS4, promoting the platform as "where the greatest play." Of course, Microsoft fired right back, claiming that the Xbox One had the best exclusives, was getting all the new franchises, and had the best multiplayer community.

The company has also unveiled a white edition of the Xbox One system, confirming that it will be bundled with Insomniac Games' upcoming zany third-person shooter, Sunset Overdrive. The white console was previously only available internally, as a special offering to Microsoft employees.

Destiny will also be available for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One computer entertainment systems from Microsoft, in addition to the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 consoles from Sony.
