The development team at Bungie is announcing that they will re-introduce the Iron Banner event to Destiny on December 16, allowing gamers to once again take part in Player versus Player battles and offering them a chance to pick up a range of new items as rewards.

The announcement is part of a new Weekly Update, which is mostly concerned with the coming launch of The Dark Below expansion but also touches on how the future of the social shooter will shape up.

The new Iron Banner event for Destiny will once again feature Lord Saladin as the instigator and all event Standing will be reset, which means that the competition between the most capable players will be heated.

Those who compete will have a chance to pick up level 31 inventory items, although the development team has not offered a clear list of the rewards that gamers can win when they take part in the battles.

The good news is that Bungie does not plan to separate the Iron Banner event based on ownership of The Dark Below and all gamers will be able to face each other as they have done before.

The Player versus Player event was not well received when it was first introduced, but the studio has quickly learned from its mistakes and has made a range of gameplay changes designed to make it more attractive to the community.

The Dark Below introduces a range of new content for the shooter

The Dark Below is set to be introduced on all platforms on December 9 and will allow those who have bought it to explore new environments and get an increase of the maximum level cap for their characters.

The narrative will be centered on a new threat to Earth, a being that's seen by many as a god and is named Crota.

The raid included in The Dark Below is designed to allow players to face him in battle and get some exclusive items as reward, including some cool swords.

This first expansion for Destiny also comes complete with a full patch and a second major content drop for the shooter is already being planned for the summer of 2015.

The game has been very successful for Activision and the company needs to keep gamers engaged by quickly dealing with any problems the community flags and by introducing a range of events that cater to a variety of play styles.
