Video game maker Bungie says that it has plans to launch a weekly event which will see a team of developers face off against the community in Player versus Player matches, with the first installment of the battle set to take place later today.

A special emblem will be offered to those players who are able to spot the Bungie team that enters the game, then challenge and defeat them during the one hour in which they will be present in the first-person shooter.

Those interested can take part in today’s event from 7 to 8 PM Pacific Time only on the PlayStation 4 home console.

Those who are set to participate in this first version of the community versus Bungie engagement are: imtylerdurden - Josh Hamrick, senior designer; CE_Wizard - Jon Weisnewski, designer; Thug Larz - Lars Bakken, design lead and DeeJ BNG, community manager.

Gamers who manage to take them out will need to post a link to their victory in the comments section of the official announcement before 12 AM Pacific on Friday in order to be considered for the special Destiny player emblem, which will be assigned via the Tower the following Tuesday.

A policy of engagement for Destiny

Bungie says that it has always been eager to engage with the player communities that developed around its titles and that the situation is no different for Destiny, with a number of special character builds already prepared for battle.

The studio states, “During this first phase of our shared adventure, we’ve been thrilled to let you lead the way. On the monitors mounted to our studio walls, our development team has observed your Fireteam. We’ve spectated your missions, your battles, and your Raids. You’ve honored us (and yourselves) with your bravery and gunfire.”

The company also says that it plans to use all playlists and all platforms on which Destiny has been launched for the Bungie vs Community events.

A big launch and a bright future

Video game publisher Activision says that it has managed to sell 325 million dollars (245 million Euro) worth of Destiny copies via stores and digital distribution platforms since the title was launched last week.

Bungie is already working on a first piece of major downloadable content, called The Dark Below, which is supposed to arrive before the end of the year, and says that it has a ten-year plan for the new universe it has created.
