An analyst watching the video game industry believes that the upcoming Destiny, the mix between shooter and social experience created by Bungie and published by Activision, will be the best-selling video game of the year, managing to deliver between 10 to 15 million copies to gamers.

Doug Creutz, who works for Cowen and Company, is quoted by VentureBeat as saying that the game could generate from 600 to 900 million dollars (460 to 645 million Euro) in sales via retail and that the figure might grow when taking into account additional merchandise.

The analyst says that Destiny has the potential to sell better than Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, mainly because it represents an entirely new intellectual property that is more attractive than a new installment in a long-running series that has not delivered anything new for years.

Destiny is supposed to arrive on September 9 of this year and will be sold on the PlayStation 4, the PS3, the Xbox One and the older 360 and there were some rumors that after launch, a version of the PC will also be announced.

Bungie has said that the new title is designed to introduce a series of new ideas to the first-person shooter genre, including plenty of ways to interact with other players and to join special events with them.

A beta test for the title will be offered in the middle of July for those who pre-order and the studio says that it will use that data in order to enhance the experience and test the core infrastructure required to run Destiny.

The title will have some exclusive content for the PlayStation 4 and the PS3, but it seems that those who pick it up on other platforms might get access to it after about one year.

Rumors have suggested that Activision is spending more than 500 million dollars (380 million Euro) in order to create Destiny and that it will launch a major promotional push for it in order to establish it as a big long-term franchise.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is expected to arrive on November 4 and will be offered on the same next-gen and current-gen consoles and also on the PC.

It is being developed by the team at Sledgehammer Games and the studio has said that it will introduce a number of new ideas both in the single and in the multiplayer modes.
