Destiny, the upcoming multiplayer shooter from Bungie, delivers its best experiences after players reach the current level cap of 20, according to the developer, which explains just what things are available to those who reach the limit in the game.

Destiny debuts tomorrow, September 9, and quite a lot of fans are already talking about the things they'll do in the game and wondering just how the title will stay fresh after they reach the level cap of 20.

Bungie clarified things in the past about the perceived low level limit, saying that players would continue to progress in other areas besides their actual level count once they reach the cap.

20 is just the beginning

According to the latest Bungie blog post, the core goal in Destiny isn't to level up, but to earn better and better rewards in the form of loot, gear, and credits that can be spent on even better items from the Tower, the home base of all of Destiny's players.

"Each player’s goal is to gear up, become more powerful, and face even greater challenges for a chance at the most powerful and awe-inspiring rewards Destiny has to offer," the studio explains.

"Our goal is to curate a living world with activities for every mood. Whether you’re craving high intensity cooperative gameplay, shooting other players in the face in a variety of modes, or scouring the planets for precious resources and hunting for Public Events, we want Destiny to meet whatever mood you’re in."

Getting better gear is crucial in Destiny

Once players reach level 20, they'll start earning points towards their Light level, which can be done only through attaining better gear.

"Strikes and Crucible matches can award powerful gear and currencies which you’ll use to buy Legendary (purple) gear from the Tower. Players can choose to champion one of our three Factions (New Monarchy, Dead Orbit, or Future War Cult) in both cooperative and competitive activities. This allows them to rank up and purchase gear from a particular Faction."

Each Faction offers a certain flavor of gear, with Bungie exemplifying the Dead Orbit group as one that focuses on Discipline and Strength, so classes with such a focus should try and get the faction's Legendary set to further improve their Light level.

New Heroic challenges also await level 20 players

Besides repeating the same tasks they did before, players will unlock Heroic mode progressions for Daily Heroic Story chapters and Weekly Heroic Strikes. These have recommended Light levels and feature modifiers in terms of difficulty, to make them a true challenge.

Destiny debuts tomorrow, September 9, so expect to hear more about its level progression and content as players start delving into the online shooter experience.
