Collected data offers insight on the random item drop system

One of the most annoying aspects when raiding in Destiny is the random item drop system that Bungie has implemented, which often rewards players will gear they don’t need or nothing at all.

Although Bungie is already trying to address this issue through updates, it’s still unclear how the system works and you obviously don’t know what gear you will get when finishing the end game raids.

In order to shed some light on how the system rewards players for defeating some of the most challenging bosses in Destiny, two players have decided to collect some data by running 200 Roc strikes and see what the game rewards them with in terms of loot.

Before listing the results they got during the 28-hour run, which was split in two days, here is something that you need to know:

- the loot table does not contain the items that dropped from kills as they rushed all of the strikes and only killed what they needed; - the loot tablets only come from rewards at the end of the game; - they were not allowed to quit any game; -completion time was based on the timer in tend-game activity.

According to reddit user beeray784, he and his roommate have gathered the following data after successfully completing 200 Roc strikes.

Roc playlist strike list and frequency:

1. The Devils' Lair: 24/200 (12% of the time), fastest completion time: 6:15, longest same map streak: 5 2. Will of Crota : 25/200 (12.5% of the time) fastest completion time: 9:21, longest same map streak: 2 3. The Summoning Pits : 28/200 (14% of the time) fastest completion time: 5:32, longest same map streak: 2 4. The Nexus : 32/200 (16% of the time) fastest completion time: 4:21, longest same map streak: 3 5. Winter's Run : 20/200 (10% of the time) fastest completion time: 8:01, longest same map streak: 2 6. Cerberus Vae III : 12/200 (6% of the time) fastest completion time: 7:16, longest same map streak: 1 7. Dust Palace : 47/200 (23.5% of the time) fastest completion time: 6:15, longest same map streak: 11 8. The Undying Mind : 12/200 (6% of the time) fastest completion time: 10:55, longest same map streak: 2

Below you can find the reward loot given to them based on 400 strikes completion (200 strikes each):

1. Rare armour engrams – 432 (1.08 per strike) 2. Rare weapon engrams – 200 (0.5 per strike) 3. Legendary armour engrams – 11 (1 every ~36 strikes) 4. Legendary weapon engrams – 9 (1 every ~44 strikes) 5. Exotic weapons – 8 (1 every 50 strikes): icebreaker, hardlight, hawkmoon, 4th horseman x2, monte Carlo x2, No Land Beyond 6. Legendary ships – 12 (1 every ~33 strikes) 7. Motes of light – 28 (1 every ~14 strikes) 8. Strange coins – 12 (1 every ~33 strikes)

Basically, you might get your desired weapon while raiding in Destiny, but you will have to play quite a lot and be lucky. Now both Destiny players who collected the data above plan on working on 200 Crucible matches and the loot they receive, so if you want more info on the matter make sure to check the original thread.
